Also, we may all fall into the trap of believing this only happens to younger children- like Jaycee Dugard when she was abducted on her way home from school. Below is a video showing parents that you cannot stress enough the importance of safety and “checking in” with Mom or Dad or a known safe adult before going anywhere with anyone. Whether its a puppy (like in the video), an ice cream, or any other known reward for children, predators are aware of what distracts kids and are practiced in luring children away under the watchful eyes of their parents.
Again, keep in mind that this doesn’t just happen to little kids and the promised treats aren’t always ice cream or toys. Instead, this video shows a scenario where a teen girl is getting propositioned for some “fun” by a 40-something man.
We know its uncomfortable and scary, but make sure you talk with your children about their behaviors. The important thing; if something seems odd or makes you nervous, don’t do it. Talk to a parent or trusted adult first. Never, never go somewhere you cannot get back from under your own power. Never leave a parent’s line of sight without checking in.
