We’re not even officially in Autumn yet. The weather is changing, though. Today you can really feel it. There’s the promise of colder weather, apple donuts, and falling leaves in the air. The first high school football game (and a big one being Belvidere North vs. Belvidere) is behind us. The NFL season starts tomorrow. The apple orchards in our area are open (Edwards, Currans, Edwards West). Did you hear about Harvard’s Royal Oaks new apple tree maze? Its the first in the United States, and its right in our backyard! The maze will have “growing, living, pickable fruit walls.”
Inevitably Autumn is associated with Halloween, after Halloween we start to look forward to Thanksgiving, and then BOOM! its Christmas shopping season. The Belvidere Chamber of Commerce is offering a bus trip to Chicago with stops at Macy’s and Watertower Place. They’re asking for registration for the trip now, so if you’re interested you may want to finalize those plans. Does it seem a long way off (especially since we were still sweating the 80+ degree weather yesterday)? Think about this- there are only 106 days until Christmas. That means around 70 days ’til its the season of spending. See the Chamber’s flyer for the trip here- Chicago Bus Trip Dec 3rd.
CASA will also be hosting a ‘Breakfast Before Business’ near Halloween. The topic will be keeping children safe while trick or treating and a craft will be offered. Mummy Jars! Come out, make a monster of your own, and pick up some tips on how to keep your little ghouls and goblins safe while they run amok on All Hallows Eve!
