Children Learn What They Live

This poem was written by American counselor Dorothy Lawe Nolte. She was quite a unique woman, born in 1924 and had the poem published in 1954. A baby formula company began to distribute this poem to new parents after publication in the 50’s. In the year 2005, Japanese Crown Prince Naruhito stated that he would raise his daughter by the poem’s principles. Her name is Princess Aiko.

Though the poem is from a bygone era, its lesson still resonate with parents, and with CASA, today. Treat children kindly, and they will learn to give kindness easily to others. Harm or abuse them, and they will suffer not just in the moment but for years to come.
